Southdown 2017-18 (follow on)

RQ: How can we help hungry children?

Methods: Plickers; Expert visit

Findings: There are 7 food banks in Flintshire. Food banks in Wales have been going for 10 years. You can only visit 3-4 times in 6 months. The average age of user was 20 – 40. Someone would need to get a voucher to get food from the food bank. They get 4 days’ worth of food. Pupils in the school want to help.  More pupils were concerned about children abroad rather than children in Wales.

The group found out that the headteacher can give out vouchers if families need them.

Outcomes/Impact: The group showed their findings to the school and sent a letter home to tell parents about the new food basket in school for the food bank. Food basket placed in reception. Food bank promoted in school assembly and posters put up around the outside of the school to raise awareness in parents. Food was delivered to the Food bank when the basket became full.
