Methods: SurveyMonkey to shops, Visit to homeless project

Findings:

  • Over half a million people are homeless.
  • One quarter of homeless are children.
  • Many people are homeless because they cannot afford rent.
  • Almost 600 people died while homeless in England and Wales in 2017.
  • The homeless tend to stay in the centre of town. Several shopkeepers said that they were unsure how many homeless there were, but most kept themselves to themselves.
  • Hope Restored is a charity that has been made to help homeless people or people in need from all around Wales and England in Llandudno.
  • Hope Restored provides food, drink, clean clothes and beds and resources. It is an overall safe place to stay.
  • Hope Restored has aided over 1,000 homeless people over the past 10 years.
  • They also have a food bank for people struggling to find food to eat.

Outcomes/Impact:

Pupils gained the agreement of their school to raise money or help with donations for Hope Restored. The pupils were planning to present their findings to the school and set up a food bank collection, when Covid 19 interrupted the project.
